Message
From The President
January 2010:
CCCC is holding a “Name that Critter” contest
to give our friendly crawfish a new name. All Members
of CCCC may participate in the contest. Rules are outlined
below.
The
winner of “Name that Critter” contest will
receive a 1-Terabyte External Hard Disk Drive
AND, AND,
AND a one year subscription
to Smart Computing.
History
of DeBug: When the Cajun Clickers Computer Club
was formed in 1989, DOS (disk operated system) was the
only operating system available for Personal Computers
(PC’). Windows and other Graphical User Interface
(GUI’s) had not yet been developed. A contest
was held to design a logo. The winner was our friendly
crawfish logo. We then held a contest to give our logo/mascot
a name. Since DOS was the operating system of choice
on all PC’s at this time (1989-1992) in technology
history it seemed a natural fit to call our mascot “DOS
DeBug”. And that is our mascot’s name still
today.
But times have changed
and technology has moved on. DOS is no longer the operating
system of choice. Windows and Linux have pushed DOS
aside as the operating systems of choice for most PC’s
both in our homes and in the business world. I think
it is time to give our mascot a new name.
The new name should
have south/central Louisiana roots with a Cajun flair
and a slant toward technology if possible. Members let
their imaginations soar and submitted over 100 names.
Now we are accumulating votes -- only one vote
per member.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS
WAS MARCH 4TH! Deadline to vote is April 30th.

2010
