1on1 Help This is not really a scheduled workshop but rather an extra service provided by individual club members. Whether you are new to computers or not, sometimes we need to sit next to someone and have something explained in a one-on-one situation where we can ask questions and see exactly what to do. This is what this is. Just call someone on our 1 on 1 help list, arrange a good time for you both and then meet at the club. Though designed primarily for those new members who know very little about computers we all need a little personal help from time to time. This personal help is quite helpful to one who is uncomfortable in a classroom venue.

Instructors: Volunteers on our 1 on 1 List

Difficulty Level: Beginner

Beginning Elements 5 Prerequisites: you must be familiar with the mouse, keyboard and monitor; how to left and right click, drag and drop. Suggested but not Required: a computer, a copy of Photo Shop Elements 5, a digital camera and a sense of humor.

This is a four part workshop aimed at helping you to have fun organizing and 'messin with your digital photos. No experience with photo editing is required. Come as you are. I especially encourage those who have tried an editing program in the past but found all those strange little 'tools' and things just too confusing to give this a workshop a try. This is definitely a hands on class and you will be working on your own computer in every class. It is certainly best if you take all four classes in the order shown but it is certainly not essential. Please come to whichever ones you can fit into your schedule; just try to follow along and I may not be able to stop to reteach material from previous classes. Don't let your pictures languish in your computer ! Have fun with them.

Part 1 (2 hours) covers the Organizer and how to get all those pictures into an order you like and that you can work with.
Part 2 (2 hours) covers the "Quick Fix" part of elements which allows Elements to enhance your pictures quickly.
Part 3 (2 hours) covers the "Full Edit" program and will cover many of the built in tools you can use to spiffy up your photos
Part 4 (2 hours) covers the "Creations" that you can make with your now wonderful pictures such as page layouts, galleries and also how to send them to the web or via email

B3D-1 — Introduction to Blender User Interface The goal of this class is to introduce students to the basic interface in Blender and the fundamental concepts of 3D design and animation. This class will quickly expose students to Blender window layout, preference settings, 3D viewport navigation and manipulation, object and object data organization, mesh object components, and simple mesh editing functions. Upon completion of this class students will be better prepared to take beginning online Blender tutorials.

Prerequisites and Recommendations: Students should be comfortable with mouse and keyboard use. Students are advised to use a 3-button wheel mouse and may want to print out a "hotkey reference sheet" which can be found here.

B3D-2 — Basic 3D Modeling In Blender The goal of this class is to introduce students to the basic modeling functions in Blender. The class will begin with a quick review of basic manipulation concepts in Blender (grab/rotate/scale), viewport navigation (zoom, dolly, orbit), and 3D cursor functions (snap/center/zero). This class will cover the basic and intermediate concepts of mesh editing; vertex groups, selection modes, snapping, proportional editing, extrusion, subdivision, and normals. This class will also briefly expose students to advanced modeling techniques; modifiers, lattices, sculpting, spinning, and will introduce other data types such as curves, surfaces, meta, and text objects. Upon completion of this class students will be better prepared to create simple models on their own and to take intermediate to advanced modeling tutorials online.

Prerequisites and Recommendations: Students who are not familiar with Blender are strongly recommended to take UI Introduction class before attending this class.

B3D-3 — Materials/Textures/Lighting in Blender The goal of this class is to introduce students to the basic use of materials, textures, and lighting in Blender. This class will cover the basic and intermediate concepts of creating and applying materials and textures to objects in Blender; shading options, diffuse, specularity, alpha, z-transparency, ambiance, emission, shadows, raytracing options, subsurface scattering, UV mapping, normal/bump mapping, texture painting, strand textures, and procedural and image textures. This class will also address the basics of lighting; light types, buffer vs. raytraced shadows, lighting groups, world options, and ambient occlusion. We will also cover some basic rendering concepts. This class will also expose students to online resources for stock textures and materials. This class will not address radiosity. Upon completion of this class students will be prepared to properly utilize stock materials and textures, to create their own basic materials and textures, and to take intermediate to advanced tutorials for creating materials and textures.

Prerequisites and Recommendations: Students who are not familiar with Blender are strongly recommended to take UI Introduction class before attending this class. Students do not necessarily have to take the modeling class to gain from this class.

B3D-4 — Basic Animation and Rendering in Blender
The goal of this class is to introduce students to the basics of animating objects, meshes, and rigs in Blender, and also to introduce the concepts and tools of character rigging using armatures, bones, and constraints. This class will cover basic IPO curve creation and manipulation and keyframes for animating object motion. This class will also cover creation of shape keys for animating mesh shapes. This class will briefly cover the components of character rigging through armatures, bones, and constraints. This class will not go into detail about inverse kinematic rigging. Upon completion of this class students will be prepared to animate objects and scenes in Blender, and to set up shape keys for shape manipulation. Students will also be prepared to take beginning to intermediate tutorials on character rigging and animation.

Prerequisites and Recommendations: Students who are not familiar with Blender are strongly recommended to take UI Introduction class before attending this class. Students do not necessarily have to take the modeling or materials/texture/lighting classes to gain from this class.
